Regional Public Transport Plan draft out - commented wanted by 3 Sept

GWRC have put out a draft public transport plan. Bikes on buses will be investigated (I've been using the bike racks on Vancouver buses - great so long as no more than 2 cyclists want to get on a bus!), the wording for bikes on trains is curious:

"Subject to consultation, provide for the carriage of cycles on trains, except between 7-9am and 4-6pm in the counter-peak direction"

GWRC reviewing policy for the carriage of cycles on trains

GWRC in conjunction with TranzMetro is reviewing the policy for the carriage of cycles on trains. A proposed policy is to be considered by the Transport and Access Committee next week.  If approved, the proposed policy will be used as the basis for consultation with the cycling community and other rail users.

Bikes on Trains

What is being done to advocate for the ability to take bikes on trains during peak hours?

The suggestion that the policy will be changed to restrict bikes being taken on trains is ridiculous.

The Regional Council have a goal to have at least 15% of region wide journey to work trips using active modes of transport.

Using cycles helps reduce traffic congestion & reduce greenhouse gas emiisions as well as reducing the need for other transport infrastructure.
